DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
I have always been the overachiever type in almost every aspect of my life – including film. The second short film I ever directed was over 30 minutes long. The story dealt with the idea of grief and how future technology could affect it. It was a lot for a 16-year-old to handle, especially along with school clubs and SAT prep.
This project was the polar opposite of the experience I just mentioned. Instead of reaching out and exploring ideas I had only ever seen, I looked within myself to seek ideas I had already experienced. If you’ve ever had a crush on someone, you may already be familiar with Reverie’s story – a teenager spiraling over the idea of confessing her love to a crush and her friend’s desperate attempt for her to think rationally. Too often, I have been either one of those roles.
Reverie is a simple story told in a simple way. It was an incredibly fun experience spinning such a relatable concept into cinematic language. I hope you will be able to relive that awkward, yet weirdly hopeful stage of falling in love through my characters.
